DIY Speckled Tumblers

January 12, 2015

I am SO excited to be sharing this DIY with you today! In fact, excitement is an understatement. I am quite smitten with this little project...so smitten that husband and I have decided they will be a part of our      Etsy Shop, along with other tumblers and glassware. They aren't listed yet, so stay tuned for all the details and launch date later this week!

Now back to how to make these beauts, with a little back story first. For several weeks at the end of 2014, I had really been craving designer speckled glassware, but couldn't stomach the cost. So I decided that I would make them myself. They turned out just like I imagined and really had a special pop to any drink.

[Step One] Find the glassware of your choice. Peel off any stickers and then run the glasses in the dishwasher, or hand wash them well.

**NOTE: After you have put speckles on them, you CANNOT put them in the dishwasher. Hand wash only.

[Step Two] Find yourself an oil-based marker. I prefer Sharpie, and you can select from a variety of colors. I picked gold.

[Step Three] Preheat your oven to 350°. While the oven is heating up begin dotting your glass in any pattern. You can draw on it, write on it, or put a bunch of cascading dots like I did.

[Step Four] Once you have your design finished, and the oven is preheated, put your glasses in the oven, top side up. You will put them directly on the oven racks. Be sure to position them, well so that don't slip and fall in between the grates. Carefully close the oven door and 'bake' your glasses for 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes, turn the oven off and leave the glasses inside. Let them cool completely sitting inside the oven, which will take a couple of hours.

[Step Five] While your glasses are baking, grab some paper straws and washi tape to spruce your glass up even more. My straws were found in the Michael's Dollar Bin before December. And the washi tape was a part of my Christmas Cheer Box!

[Step Six] Cut the washi tape in desired strip lengths. Remember you'll be folding it over, so double the length. Mine were about 4 inch strips. Fold the tape around the straw and press together. Then cut a triangle out of the end of the tape. You can write names on the tape or leave them blank.

And when you're glasses have completely cooled, pull them out of the oven. You've washed them and baked them at 350° so need to re-sanitize them. Plop a straw in each glass and fill with your desired beverage, whether it be sweet tea, a mocktail, or a cocktail!

And there you have it, beautiful cutstom made speckled tumblers. Check out our Etsy Shop later this week, to purchase a variety of glassware with patterned designs! This is a great alternative if DIY just isn't your thing!

Happy Monday friends, I hope this brightened up a very rainy day for you!!
