Greer Girl Turns One || A First Birthday Party

January 9, 2017

It's been almost three weeks since my sweet girl turned one, and I still can't believe it. We celebrated her birthday with family the weekend before, and kept it sweet and simple. Our goal was to keep her party as far detached from Christmas as we could. So we picked a sweet floral theme and added a few touches to our house to make it special for her.

We spent our morning letting her open gifts, blowing out her birthday candle, eating some cake, napping, and opening more gifts. Greer was just the cutest, from her party dress and floral crown to her grin and wonder at a cake that was all her own. I think she enjoyed having a low-key gathering centered around just her. This girl ate up all the attention! And I could eat her up. My baby's first birthday party was perfect for her, and we couldn't have asked for more.

Look at those little pursed lips. Greer loves blowing on hot food or blowing at candles. So this was right up her alley. She needed a little extra help from her mama, but together we got her candle out.

She wasn't sure what to make of her smash cake. So mama had to show her what to do. She never actually smashed it, and was so dainty about the whole thing. Originally, I made her a very healthy smash cake, but it wasn't soft and fluffy like I had hoped. So baby girl got herself a chocolate cake with heavy whipping cream whipped up as frosting. She loved it!

The cake for the adults was a dark chocolate cake with a salted caramel frosting, topped with sugared cranberries. It was scrumptious. In addition to the cake, there was a hot chocolate bar and some brunch-like food....mini pancake stacks, sausage balls, fruit, and orange cranberry water. When I say we kept it simple, I truly mean simple.
