Welcome To The World!

Tuesday, December 29, 2015

Husband and I are proud (beaming with so much joy!) to introduce our girl, Greer Arden Elizabeth Hill. She made the two of us a family of three on December 21 @ 12:11 PM. Weighing 7 pounds and three ounces, she measured 20 1/2 inches long.

To say we're in love would be an understatement. In the short eight days we have had together, we've already found it impossible to imagine life without her. She is our biggest blessing, and we see the Lord's faithfulness and love through her. She brings so much happiness to our home!

And a huge thank you for all of the sweet words and congratulations that you have shared with us over this last week. Many, many thanks to each of you!

Thoughts For Friday + The Pick: Week 50

Friday, December 18, 2015
Cheers to the weekend! Our last weekend as a family of two! Come Monday, we'll be a family of three and it's still blowing my mind!! Last night we went on our epic final date before baby. It started off with dinner, a little shopping, and then an early premiering of the new Star Wars movie. Truth be told, I've never seen the other Star Wars movies and I wouldn't count myself a fan. But, when I had the opportunity to buy tickets for the early showing with cocktails and heavy hors d'oeuvres I couldn't pass it up. Only because my husband is a Star Wars fan and surprising him is always fun to do!

Don't worry, no spoilers here, but the movie was great. And that's coming from someone who wouldn't have picked to go see it. Husband thought it was stellar as well. So besides all things baby being on my mind, here are my thoughts for the week!

p.s. Don't forget to grab your free winter printable (psst...scroll to the end of the post)!

T H I N K I N G  > That I'm so glad I was able to sneak in a pedicure and manicure with my sister this week. My nails needed it and I needed the relaxation.

P O N D E R I N G > How our last weekend will go with just the two of us.

N E E D I N G > To soak up how life feels right now. What it feels like to be just husband and me. Because it's going to be different (in the best way!) after baby girl joins us.

L I S T E N I N G > To this! It's an every Christmas season favorite of mine!

D R E A M I N G > Of bringing baby girl home on Christmas Eve :)

S W O O N I N G > Over the fact that Christmas Day is just ONE week away!! Can you even believe it?!

I hope you have one very cheerful weekend, lovelies!
I'd say I would see you back here on Monday, but I've got a baby to deliver!
(Maybe there will be a final bumpdate for 39 weeks!) xo

What's On My Pregnant Mind

Thursday, December 17, 2015
If you can imagine, life has been a bit busy for the Hills lately. And you've probably noticed as my blogging hasn't been taking top priority. Because at the end of the day I'd much rather kick my feet up and do something mindless than sit at the computer and put a post together. It's true, and I'm owning it.

Today makes 4 days until we meet our little lady, and we are trying our best to check off to-dos (of both the necessary and want kind). There's still some cleaning, present wrapping, and date-nighting to be had before Monday. Somehow, we're making it all happen. Somehow

My body has certainly seemed to reach its maximum these days. The discomfort is a constant reminder that this babe is just about fully baked and ready to arrive. In all honesty, I'm quite over being pregnant at 38 weeks and 5 days. Not only am I ready to finally meet my girl, but I'm ready to have my pre-pregnancy bod back. And that in itself won't come for months, especially since I'm having to have a c-section. But, how I dream of sleeping on my stomach once again! I know that the one thing I will miss most about pregnancy is feeling baby Hill move. There's nothing that compares to feeling her tiny body flutter about and watching it play out across my stomach. Even when those movements involve a swift knee jerk that makes me catch my breath. I'll miss those too.

There's been a lot of processing over here lately. You know, about the whole c-section thing and what that's going to be like, how it's different from the natural birth I imagined, and the recovery side of things. There have been tears (mostly because I think I'm a hormonal mess lately), there have been unruly hot flashes that don't subside quickly, and there have been jitters about becoming a mom.

I pray that I am the best mom for baby girl. That I raise her to know the Lord, love, and joy. That even in my short comings she will still have a constant safe hold in God's presence and control in her life. That I wake up in the middle of the night when she cries. That even on my best and worst days I'm still giving her my all. It's a lot to process isn't it?! Props to you mamas out there! And just when I feel the weight of what motherhood is going to bring, I have the sweetest husband reassuring me that I've got it, I'll figure it out and excel at it. What would I do without that man?

Our home is full of Christmas cheer, a stocking for our gal that I'm sure we'll photograph her in, and a whole lot of love. The twinkle lights give me all the feels, especially knowing that I'll be cuddling my tiny babe by them in a week. Yep, we'll be home on Christmas Eve, making this Christmas even more magical.

In the midst of our final countdown and the preparation for all new transitions happening, husband and I have become even more solid as a married couple. It amazes me how even in this way God is preparing us for life with baby, making us stronger as a team. And I thought I loved him most the day I said 'I do'. Nothing compares to now, but I have a feeling that will change again when I see him hold our daughter for the first time.

So here's to a whole lot of random thoughts, thanks for sticking through the post! You can expect some dwindling in my blog posting once baby girl is here. Don't worry, I'll be back and there will be plenty of photos of our family of three popping up all over Instagram. Really who can resist baby photos?? So be sure to keep up with us there too!

And because this season will certainly be full of cuddles, enjoy this free printable that I made! Download it from the link to print it off as a 4x6, 5x7, or 8x10 and put in your favorite frame this winter! #givemeallthecuddles #especiallythebabyones

I'll see you here tomorrow for my thoughts to round out the week! And to share something extra fun that husband and I are getting to do tonight! xo

Oh Baby! || Week 38

Tuesday, December 15, 2015
I can't even tell you how much joy and anticipation I'm feeling this week. We are t-minus 6 days away from meeting our sweet babe, and it feels so very surreal! We've made it! And unless she decides to come early on her own timing, there's less than a week until we head to the hospital to welcome her into the world.

I've got all the feels as I think through how her delivery might go, about seeing her for the first time, and hearing that cry. I've wanted to be a mom since I was a little girl, and now it's really happening. It's hard to put into words just how I feel about one of my biggest dreams coming true. And the fact that I get to share it with husband. Maybe there are no words for it. My heart is about to explode now, so I can only imagine how my heart will feel next Monday.

How far along? In the 38th week

Baby's Size: A pumpkin || approximately 19ish-21ish inches. The doctor guessed she was anywhere between 6 and 6.5 pounds. And based on my fundal height measurement, she is measuring at 36 weeks. So she's a tiny gal :)

Gender: Sweet girl!

Baby Fact: Baby girl might have an inch or so of hair already (I would not be surprised based on all of this acid reflux!). She is also shedding some of the vernix.

Weight Gain: 29 pounds as of last Friday. Right on track it seems!

Baby's Movement: While she is not interested in moving head down, she still loves to dance around, especially when I am stretched out, laying down. Night time is her jam when it comes to really moving, and I can very much feel her head, arms/legs.

Maternity Clothes: I am a comfort wearing gal these days. My belly is maxing out my maternity shirts! And I prefer my loose shirts and pajamas to normal clothes these days. Just see my photos for this week :)

Sleep: I'm not really getting much sleep at this point. Finding a comfortable position doesn't come easy, and being woken to use the bathroom several times a night surely doesn't help either. So I nap when I can, and take the few hours of random sleep I get at night. Clearly my body is prepping for the nights with baby girl.

Symptoms: Acid reflux (check); swollen feet, ankles, and fingers (check); congestion and a constant tickle in my throat (check); lower back pain (check); fingers that fall asleep while I'm sleeping (check); hip discomfort (check); electric like shocks through my legs when standing up after sitting awhile (check); puffy face and water retention (check); no more wearing of my wedding bands (check). None of these symptoms have changed since last week.

Cravings: Ice cold water, juice, carbonation (specifically Coca-Cola, which I wouldn't normally go for), crunchy and cold fruit (think grapes and clementines), peppermint patties, Reese's cups (the tree/blog shaped ones), salty peanuts, cheese drizzled broccoli, and Apple Jacks cereal.

Miss Anything? Having more energy.

Best Moment This Week: It's the last full week of pregnancy! Bittersweet, but oh so exciting! We are just 6 days away from meeting her!!! And since we know that baby Hill will be here for Christmas, we got her "first Christmas" outfit and stocking. Seeing three stockings hanging instead of just one gives me all the feels, ya'll.

Worst Moment This Week: The general discomfort makes for no fun. I can tell that my body has really maxed out, and I'm looking forward to getting my pre-pregnancy body back.

Looking Forward To: Next Monday!!!

How's Husband? He is ready!! We've been talking about the c-section and what our expectations and wishes are for it. Husband is totally on board for the things that I want to come from it and he's also prepped and ready to roll for the recovery phase of this. He's going to be the best dad and that makes my heart incredibly happy. I can't wait to see him with our girl!

In case you missed it:

p.s. did you catch yesterday's post?? Who do you think she'll look more like....husband or me??

The Countdown!

Monday, December 14, 2015
A week from today I will be snuggling my tiny newborn. Husband and I will be experiencing a joy like none other as we get to know our sweet girl. I know it's going to be hard to take my eyes off of her. And I'm just full of anticipation and jitters about this time 7 days from now, when we're settled into our hospital room as a family of 3! It's going to make this Christmas season one for the books, of that I'm sure!

So while I wonder about my girl and who she'll be and what she looks like, I thought it would be fun to compare a side-by-side of her daddy and me. There are traits of his I most certainly hope she gets, one of which would be his cute button nose :)

Regardless, I know I'm going to be smitten with her, completely head over heels for someone I've just met. Here's to the next 7 days, that they be full of dates for the daddy- and mommy-to-be, sleep (at least rest), and total wonder as we count down to a day we've been waiting on for the last 38 weeks and 2 days! Baby girl, we can't wait to meet you!!  **cue all the feels**

Who do you think she'll look like??

Thoughts For Friday + The Pick: Week 49

Friday, December 11, 2015
Whoah, baby, it's Friday again! And not including today, there are only 2 more Fridays left this year. Say what?! More wild than that, there is only one more Friday left until I meet my daughter! Yes, you read that correctly! Monday morning we had an appointment to try and turn baby girl into the head down position. If you read our 37 week bumpdate, you know that the turn didn't happen and our girl is now breech. So a c-section has been scheduled and we'll be meeting our girl in t-minus 10 days! Unless of course she puts me into labor before that, and knowing her seemingly feisty personality, it wouldn't surprise me if she tried coming early :)

So husband and I are soaking up our last days before we become the three of us! This weekend looks like finishing up Christmas shopping, naptime, and lots of one on one time with one another. We are both so anxious to meet her! Let the countdown to our girl officially commence!

T H I N K I N G  > About what a c-section is going to be like from the OR to the recovery. While it wasn't our first choice, we both feel confident that it is God's choice. So we're going into it with peaceful hearts.

P O N D E R I N G > If baby girl is going to stick to her delivery date or come on her own timing. I'm starting to see more and more of my personality in her, so I wouldn't be shocked if she made the call to come along when she wants :) #shegetsitfromhermama

N E E D I N G > To schedule a pedicure and manicure for a little R&R before baby girl's arrival!

L I S T E N I N G > To Christmas music, what else?? falalalalala

D R E A M I N G > About a tall, cold, fizzy Coca-Cola, which is strange because I typically wouldn't go for that. Pregnancy does crazy things to you!

S W O O N I N G > Over baby girl's stocking! It's on its way to me via the mail, and I can't wait

I hope you have one wonderful weekend, lovelies!  xo

DIY Wooden Snowman Ornament

Thursday, December 10, 2015

I think I can say that part of my style is rustic. I love a simple piece that has enough charm on its own that it can stand alone or easily be paired with other accents without being too much. From decorating my home, to sprucing for the seasons and the holidays, rustic flair is always popping up somewhere.

This year when deciding what look I wanted for our Christmas tree, I knew I wanted a combination of sophistication and rustic. Cue the mercury glass ornaments as the key players in the Christmas tree decorating game, followed up with wooden accents to bring the tree full circle. Because I'm a firm believer that you should never decorate without variety and texture. I love the turnout of sleek mercury glass with wooden, painted reindeer. To bring in a bit more of the rustic look I decided a homemade ornament would be the way to go!

And that's how this snow-woman ornament came to be. With logs found on my parents' property, some scrap fabric from pillow covers I made, and the contents of my paint box, I easily put together this darling snow gal to adorn my tree. The best part, it cost me nothing!

Husband cut the various logs into 1/4" discs for me for the tier look, and I hot glued each disc to one another. Then I painted on the features, hot glued the scarf, and attached a hook (not pictured) with hot glue to finalize this ornament. I love that there are so many variations you could make with the basic snowman shape, giving multiples of this ornament a variety of looks. No two snowflakes are the same, so why should snow people be?!

I love the sweetness it added to the tree. Making the ornament was a breeze too, and took no time at all! What's your favorite ornament DIY?? Link-up below with Rachel and I to share yours! Just grab the button and link back to us! Happy crafting!

Blogiversary || 3 Years

Wednesday, December 9, 2015

And today makes three years of blogging! 679 posts later and I still can't believe I've been writing and sharing my life, my heart for this long! One of my biggest blessings through blogging has been documenting so much of the day-to-day that I wouldn't have otherwise. I love looking back through life over the last three years. What was I doing on this day a year ago? How about two years ago?? Or how did we decorate for Christmas 2013, what was our first married Thanksgiving like, etc. With a few clicks I can remember all of that sweetness, and I cherish it so.

Even in the moments where I thought my content was subpar, I had run out of post ideas, or let the weight of comparison get to me, I can honestly say that overall I've loved it all and can't imagine not publishing posts throughout my week. It's become second nature and a labor of love for me. Since my start I've been tweaking and trying to narrow down exactly what kind of blog Hill Collection is. Slowly, but surely, it is transforming and shaping into the lifestyle blog I dream it will be.

Of course, it wouldn't be the blog that it is without all of you. For your readership, comments, and support, I am so very thankful. You all are part of the blogging joy that I get out of this sweet space of mine. A huge thank you to each of you!!

I look forward to years more of writing here. To capturing my growing family's first, milestones, and adventures. To sharing recipes, DIY's, my home throughout the seasons, and my thoughts on life and all that it brings. I hope you will still be sharing in this journey with me! As always, happy reading my friends!

Oh Baby! || Week 37

Tuesday, December 8, 2015

First, thank you all so much for your sweet comments about our maternity photos! I'm quite smitten with them, and it seems you loved them as much as I do! There were so many more to share, so I'm sure more will be popping up around here every now and then!

Welcome to term, sweet girl of mine! We made it!!

She gets it from her mama, her stubbornness that is. At the end of 33 weeks and heading into our 34th week, we discovered little miss was transverse or sideways instead of head down. So yesterday morning, husband and I headed into the hospital for an external version to flip her into the correct position. Before the procedure they monitored her heartbeat (as strong as ever!), gave me medicine to relax my muscles to keep my body from fighting the doctor trying to turn her, and performed an ultrasound to determine exactly how she is hanging out in there. We discovered that baby girl did in fact move, but she went from transverse to breech! Wrong direction, my girl! From the ultrasound the doctor could tell that her bottom was pretty firmly settled low in my pelvis. He didn't know that there would be success in flipping her, but thought giving it a go was most certainly worth it.

Three to four tries later, and the doctor called it quits on turning her. Little Hill didn't budge a bit; apparently she's quite happy with her position. And thankfully, she didn't experience any distress from it, a huge prayer answered. The doctor tried his best to get her hips and tush out of my pelvis, but it just wasn't happening, so a c-section it is! I was hoping for a natural delivery, but over the last several weeks had very much come to terms with a c-section. So that news wasn't a shocker nor a day ruiner for me. Husband and I are now waiting to confirm the c-section date, and my how it feels weird to know the day we'll meet her. Granted, she may try to show up sooner, and knowing my girl and her feisty personality already, it wouldn't surprise me :)

As for the discomfort associated with turning a baby, I have a high pain tolerance and handled the procedure well. Mind you, it still wasn't comfortable and I'm now feeling sore from the pressure that had to be applied to my stomach.

How far along? In the 37th week

Baby's Size: A winter melon || approximately 19ish-21ish inches and anywhere from 6.2 to 9.2 pounds

Gender: Sweet girl!

Baby Fact: Baby girl is practicing her inhaling, exhaling, sucking, gripping, and blinking. She's also getting the meconium ready for her first diaper.

Weight Gain: 26 pounds since my last appointment, and I'll know if that has changed on Friday at my next appointment.

Baby's Movement: Still moving around with fervor in there! Her favorite time is at night when I'm reclined in bed. I love watching her body wiggle all around.

Maternity Clothes: Even my maternity clothes are being stretched and don't quite cover near as much as they once did. I'm still firm in thinking that sweatpants and pajamas are the only way these days, and wish I could make them work in the office. Oh well!

Sleep: I't's still hard to come by. I'm up for a bathroom break about 2 times a night now. Some nights it's even 3.

Symptoms: Acid reflux (check); swollen feet, ankles, and fingers (check); congestion and a constant tickle in my throat (check); lower back pain (check); fingers that fall asleep while I'm sleeping (check); hip discomfort (check); electric like shocks through my legs when standing up after sitting awhile (check); puffy face (check); no more wearing of my wedding bands (check). None of these symptoms have changed since last week.

Cravings: Ice cold water and juice, crunchy and cold fruit (think grapes), peppermint patties, and cereal. These are all the same as well. A new craving though is salty peanuts.

Miss Anything? My sleep.

Best Moment This Week: Having answers about baby girl's position. The external version wasn't fun, but it gave us a clear direction on the next step. The doctor that worked on turning her was great, and we're trying to set it up so that he'll also be the one delivering her. Since he knows the situation, it makes a lot of sense to go with him.

Worst Moment This Week: Knowing that a c-section is the way we'll be delivering baby girl. It could be worse, so I'm thankful that it's not. And I'm also thankful to have a definitive answer on how baby girl is positioned. It's a prayer answered to have that peace of mind. I trust that the Lord has baby girl this way for a reason, and that's enough for me. A c-section might not be my first choice, but if it's the best for her, then it's the best for me.

Looking Forward To: Looking into her face for the first time. We are so close to meeting her and it gives me all the feels to imagine holding her and making our first eye contact.

How's Husband? A true champ. He's been so supportive during this entire pregnancy and has never let up. He makes making the hard decisions about what to do easy, and I know I've always got his support. You should see his eyes light up when he talks about seeing her and loving on her for the first time. Baby girl and I are certainly lucky to call him ours!

In case you missed it:

Maternity Photos || Baby Girl 2015

Monday, December 7, 2015
Our baby girl is just 19 days away from her due date, and her daddy and I can't wait to meet her! This season of life has been so sweet, so full of the Lord's grace and faithfulness. I still find myself in awe of all that has happened over the last 37 weeks. I doubt that the awe ever goes away. What a miracle our little lady is. Her story is so beautiful already, and it's only just beginning.

To document our pregnancy, we ventured out with Rachel to capture life as we know it now. Because, oh my how it's going to change once our family of two becomes three! The November day was cold, but totally worth the chill bumps and frozen fingers for the lovely photos Rachel took. I'm still swooning over them! It was hard to narrow down the photos to just a few (so there are much more than a few!), but I did pick my favorite ones to share with you.

If you're a local in my neck of the woods, I highly recommend reaching out to Rachel of Rachel Wells Photography to capture your keepsake moments!

Thoughts For Friday + The Pick: Week 48

Friday, December 4, 2015
Happy Friday!! My weekend started yesterday at noon with a half of day at work before prepping for the annual Hill Christmas Cabin. It feels like we were just packing up and heading out for that tradition last year! Time's inability to slow down isn't phasing me so much anymore. I know it's just going to keep whizzing by, so I'm trying to soak it all in while I can.

Speaking of the quickness of time, where has this pregnancy gone? I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow, ya'll! And I'm at the point in pregnancy where my feet have completely disappeared from sight and more or less I'm done being pregnant. Who can relate? On the contrast, I also know that I'm going to miss feeling my girl move all of the time and having her with me for everything. So I'm trying my best to enjoy this big belly of mine even when the discomfort is driving me slightly batty. More than anything, I'm just so darn excited to meet her. To hold her in my arms and look into her tiny face. With all the Christmas décor up, I selfishly want her arrival to be sooner rather than later so I can enjoy cuddling a newborn surrounded by twinkling lights and the scent of fresh balsam. #allthefeels

But enough of my random commentary! Now on to my thoughts for this week!

T H I N K I N G  > About husband's Christmas gifts! I'm so bad....I haven't bought a single gift yet. Granted, I also don't have a wishlist from him, so that does make it a bit more challenging. Let's hope I get that done asap!

P O N D E R I N G > When baby girl is going to arrive! It is her due date month after all :)

N E E D I N G > To get my hospital bag packed! Baby girl's is ready to go, but this mama-to-be has yet to put hers together!

L I S T E N I N G > To the Pentatonix's Christmas jams. I love their sound!

D R E A M I N G > About sharing our girl's name! I am so looking forward to being able to introduce her by her name :)

S W O O N I N G > Over all of the Christmas goodness that is going on! There's a Christmas parade tonight, along with a Christmas bazaar at the Farmer's Market and it gives me all the happy feels!

I hope you have one wonderful weekend, lovelies!  xo

Deck The Halls!

Thursday, December 3, 2015

There is so much truth to this season being the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas is magical all the way around. From the twinkling lights to the tartan and plaid, everything about December is just plain cozy. I could go on an on about my favorites (the scent of balsam, the red cup, red and green everywhere), but I think I'll let my decorations do a little bit of the talking for me.

So come on in! I wish I could offer you a cup of hot cocoa and share a plate of cookies with you!

I'm all about texture and variety when it comes to decorating. Instead of going with traditional garland on my mantel, I wanted to find something that brought in a new textural element. So when I found this glittery stick garland, I knew exactly where it belonged. On my mantel of course! I wound some battery operated LEDs through it to add that extra special touch, and because I love twinkling lights just about everywhere!

This year I had a clear goal in mind when decorating for the tree. Since we've been married, husband and I have used old plastic ornaments that I bought during college. So this was the year to purchase ornaments that we both loved and fit our style. We went for mercury glass ornaments (because swoon), some wooden reindeer for variety, and matte, Christmas colored jingle bells, which we paired with our keepsake ornaments and I think our tree is just lovely.

Next year, my goal is to find the right garland to go around the tree. Decorating has always been about slowly accumulating the right pieces. And it looks like that's the tradition we are keeping with! Maybe I'll have luck after Christmas this year with a great bargain find on just the right garland. Fingers crossed!

Forgive our unfinsihed end table. Regardless of its state, it still needed some holiday décor. I found this cute sign at TJMaxx back in November and have waited excitedly to put it out. The jingle bells were a last minute touch to the cloche when I realized we didn't need hundreds of jingle bells on the Christmas tree. And I'm quite happy with the way they look all snug in there!

The Christmas sprucing doesn't stop in the family room. It goes straight into the dining room as well. And even to the master bedroom (that's coming, just keep scrolling!). I love subtle touches for the holidays all over my home. And yes, I definitely think that sometimes you can have too darn much. But, I'm hopeful in thinking that I find a decent balance between just right and too much!

My dining room always has a wreath for each door. And the table centerpiece is meticulously laid out to reflect the season. I like to incorporate the same elements all over (see the jingle bells) to make one cohesive look.

The master gets just a few touches of holiday cheer. Husband and I love having twinkling lights in our room, making it all the cozier.

And that concludes the tour! I only slightly apologize for all of the photos :) One of my favorite parts of blogging is being able to look back on seasons, memories, and events of years past. So I love documenting thoroughly, and that means a whole lot of photos!

Check out Christmas decorations from the past. It's fun looking back and seeing how much my style has evolved from year to year!:
