Babymooning Pt. 1

October 14, 2015

Husband and I celebrated our journey to parenthood and the forthcoming arrival of our baby girl with an extended weekend of rest and relaxation. Last Thursday, we both left work at noon, packed the car, grabbed lunch for the road, and made the short trek northbound for Lexington. We spent our time awwing over the mountains, fall-hued trees, and landscape the entire time. And we also enjoyed the amenities of a Bed & Breakfast....as in a homemade, scrumptious breakfast every morning, chocolate covered strawberries and sparkling cider on the veranda, and fresh cookies every night at nine. You could say we were completely spoiled. And we kind of loved it. After all, isn't' that what a babymoon is for?!

In our search for the perfect babymooning location, we came across the Hummingbird Inn in Goshen. It had a babymooners package that caught our eye, seemed to be the right place for kicking our feet up, and was a short trip's distance from several places we wanted to visit...think The Homestead and downtown Lexington.

We picked an amazing spot to get away to. The Inn was accommodating from the moment we arrived, not to mention all the charm packed into one place. The coziness of fall was everywhere, and my heart couldn't have been happier.

We stayed in the Allegheny Room, which was perfect for our stay. Just across the hall was the Eleanor room, where Eleanor Roosevelt had stayed during a visit to Lexington. Isn't that neat?!

When we arrived on Thursday we settled right in. So quick in fact that I didn't think to take photos of the room before the nestling happened, After putting all of our stuff in its place, this third trimester mama-to-be wanted nothing more than to nap for an hour or so. Husband, being the kind soul that he is, obliged and let me slumber on the bed while he read.

Husband woke me up at dinner time, and we drove through Goshen Pass (SO gorgeous!) into downtown Lexington to grab dinner. We picked a local Italian place, Salerno, and really loved the laid back atmosphere and simplicity. It was a nice way to start off our babymoon. Of course, we returned that night to warm, homemade cookies before heading to bed.

Friday we woke to this beautiful view, breakfast in the dining room, and lounge time on the couch....where I proceeded to take a late morning nap. Naps were kind of my thing this whole trip, and it felt so nice to sleep when I wanted.

At noon we enjoyed sparkling cider (for me), wine (for him), chocolate covered strawberries, and a cheese plate. The weather was perfection and so were the treats. Babymooning is my new favorite! And it is something I recommend every expectant parent takes the time for, whether it be a big trip or a quiet day being pampered at home. I can't even begin to tell you how relaxed the two of us felt after a weekend getaway.

Husband ended up napping that afternoon, and by evening we were on our way to The Homestead to explore the hotel and browse the tiny Hot Springs downtown. We grabbed dinner there and oohed and awwed some more over the beautiful drive and the gorgeous homes. But more on that tomorrow!
