A Short Post For A Long Independence Weekend

July 5, 2016

I hope your post 4th Tuesday is going swimmingly! We're getting back into routine over here (in our pjs no less), which isn't wanted (come back, weekend!), but welcome. We kicked off our holiday weekend Friday evening with take-out Mexican cuisine + margaritas after baby went down for bed. We finished off all the available episodes of New Girl on Netflix and called it a night.
Saturday morning we started bright and early with a 6 AM wake time, followed by breakfast out at a local bakery, some house browsing drive-by-style while baby girl snoozed, and finally some blueberry picking. We picked a couple of pints worth, and then headed home for nap #2 of the day. I'll be sharing more of our blueberry picking adventures tomorrow. The rest of our Saturday was very laid back and relaxed.

Our Sunday started off with church, a grocery store run, and then a pre-4th of July celebration with family. If you follow me on Instagram, you saw a photo I shared of blueberry-braised brisket. Husband whipped that together and it cooked for three hours while we played croquet and made the accompanying sides. We served the brisket on pretzel buns, and it was AMAZING. Greer enjoyed her first sparklers, and then we packed up and headed home, arriving just in time for little bit's bedtime. Husband and I called it an early night and hit the hay at 9:45. It was glorious. The best part, Greer let us sleep in until 8:30 the next morning. Hallelujah for sleep!!

Monday morning started off misty and rainy. But that's nothing some cream cheese and strawberry crepes couldn't remedy. Baby took a nap while mama and daddy sipped lattes, and then we hit the blueberry fields again for round two with family this time. (We used all of our first round berries for the brisket). It rained while we were picking, but baby and I stayed dry under an umbrella and her tucked away in her solly wrap. We enjoyed BLTs for lunch with the fam, and headed home for a nap (for baby), and some Bourbon Blueberry + Peach Cobbler making. Our friends hosted us for a low-key barbecue that evening and crazy loud fireworks went off right out our bedroom window (literally) when dark fell. I enjoyed a few of the colorful bursts before they woke Greer up. And so I listened to them loudly exploding from her nursery where I rocked her and held hers ears while she slept through it. A huge rain and thunderstorm started just minutes after the fireworks grand finally. Talk about good timing!

That, my friends, is how we celebrated America's birthday this weekend! What did you do??
