Keepsake Ornaments + A GIVEAWAY

Tuesday, November 29, 2016
We all know how smitten I am with the holidays. From the coziness to the decorating, every single aspect of the holiday season gives me all the happy feels. Sprucing our home during this time of year is one of my very favorite things to do. There's nothing quite like decking the halls with Christmas cheer.

It has taken me several years to build up my Christmas décor collection. I have acquired it slowly, and each piece has a little memory attached to it. From the décor we purchased during our first married Christmas to the keepsake ornaments we find from our travels.

Every holiday season we find an ornament to add to our tree that best represents our year. This year I found the most perfect ornaments to commemorate the last 12 months as a family of three. What better ornament than custom silhouettes that capture  the 'way we were' in 2016?

Postmark Studios makes the most beautiful pieces using the silhouettes of your loved ones. And there's no denying how sweet and precious a babe's tiny profile is. I can't get over Greer's sweet little nose and that bow. The gals at Postmark Studios absolutely nailed our profiles. Working with Jordan and Lindsey was an absolute pleasure, and the process was so simple and well-explained. We simply snapped photos of ourselves on my phone, sent them in, and the girls worked their magic.

I am beyond pleased with how the ornaments turned out, and we will cherish them always. I know that years from now when I look at them it will be such a sweet reminder of 2016 and my itty bitty Greer.

Now to spread a little holiday cheer with a GIVEAWAY! The gals at Postmark Studios are giving away a set of two custom silhouette ornaments to one lucky person.

The giveaway is running now through midnight on Sunday, December 4th. A winner will randomly be selected and announced early next week.

Use the code HILL25 for 25% off of your purchase for the next week!

A huge thank you to Postmark Studios for making and providing our beautiful keepsake ornaments for 2016. They couldn't be more perfect!

Modeling For Southern Weddings

Tuesday, November 22, 2016
This past May, husband and I had the honor of modeling for an editorial in the V9 issue of Southern Weddings magazine. We knew we would be traveling to The Greenbrier, but all of the other details would be a surprise until our arrival. To say we were excited would be an understatement. See, we aren't models by a long shot, and besides our own family photos and the photos we share here on the blog, this was all new to us. I think that's what made it so intriguing, and why we both agreed this experience was one we simply could not pass up.

We made it a family affair, bringing along my grandmother, who also appeared in the editorial as a part of the story line. Just wait till you see her, she's precious. An itty, bitty five-month-old Greer accompanied us. And my mom and sister were there too to help take care of Greer and to keep Grandmom company until she joined us for the tea-time shoot.

From our noon arrival to our late evening leave, we had a blast. I'm a huge believer in details, and the gals at Southern Weddings do not disappoint. They wove an entire story together with each place setting, flower arrangement, and outfit. Those ladies are talented. All of the details from this mock wedding were so different from those at our actual wedding, which is another reason that made this so fun for us. As we walked around the grounds from location to location, several Greenbrier guests congratulated us. We played along and gave them our thanks. Because truly, I loved being able to 'marry' my favorite guy again.

I didn't take a ton of behind the scenes photos because we were busy bees being photographed. So here are the lovely shots that Whitney Neal took that day. If you haven't grabbed the V9 issue of the magazine, you should! You can find it on shelves where magazines are sold (I know for certain it's in Target stores!).

Now fall in love with the vibrant colors and prints of The Greenbrier. If you're not a Dorothy Draper fan already, you will be by the end of this post. You're going to be smitten with it all, I feel certain of it!

I can't even with this chandelier! It's a stunner. Everything at The Greenbrier, from the curtains to the carpet, was over the top, southern glamor if there ever was such a thing. The wedding details paid homage to those bold interior aesthetics.

Fun fact #1: We had never met the members of our bridal party before that day. With the exception of one of the girls, they all knew each other. Don't you just love the bridesmaids tops and skirts?!

Fun fact #2: There is a story behind the characters and love story of this photoshoot. Grab the magazine to read it, and then smile because if I lived another life it would be this one. Even my mom commented on how strikingly similar it is to aspects of my life now, and the career dreams I had when I first started college.

I told you she was precious! This is my grandmom, and I'm so glad she agreed to be a part of this editorial photoshoot. She will be 93 years old in December, and she's a fireball. From her sweet and sassy demeanor to the love she has showered upon me all of my life, she's one of my favorite people. It's a memory that I'll hold dear forever. I love how life gives you keepsake moments when you least expect them. And this is one of those.

We are so thankful for this experience, and for the friendships that have formed from our Greenbrier Getaway. I can't think the ladies at SW for all the fun we had. For glamming us up to letting us traipse around in bridal wear all day long. This was a once-in-a-lifetime day for us, and we had the best time!

Christmas Tree Cutting 2016

Monday, November 21, 2016
I thought I loved the holidays before. But, then we added a baby and the holidays became even more magical. Her joy through this season is tangible. Greer squeals with delight and sucks in the biggest gulp of air when she's about to explode with excitement. It makes my heart burst every time. I hope she'll love the holidays as much as I do. And based on those squeals, I think she will.

On Saturday, we snuggled our little babe up and headed to the mountains to cut down our Christmas tree. I've been tagging and cutting a tree since I was a little girl. This is one of my favorite traditions that I look forward to each holiday season, and it was a joy to share it with Greer this year.

It was a blustery cold, which always calls for a toboggan and Starbucks. Flurries were in the forecast, and the tree farm was calling. Add Christmas music and the coos and babbles of a content baby to make for one perfect morning.

We don't dote on her or anything. Let's just say this little lady doesn't lack attention being paid to her...from us or from total strangers.

Did you catch this photo on Instagram on Saturday??

Typically, I help Pete cut down the tree. But, this year my job was wrangling the baby. If I'd let her, she would have been up under that tree helping her Da-Da.

LOOK. AT. THAT. FACE. I can't even. Do you see what I'm talking about with the holidays being all the more spectacular?! She's this amazed by the little and big parts of what makes the holidays. I could squeeze her little joyful self.

And down she comes. Look at that proud man in the background :)

Meet Sue, the owner of Joe's Trees. She is a wonderful lady who runs a business that has a special place in my heart. She was so sweet and took the photos of the three of us while we hunted for the perfect tree. For you mamas out there, you know how often it is that you don't make it in front of the camera lense. So I can't thank Sue enough for graciously snapping away, capturing all three of us.

Once the tree was shaken, bound, and tied to the top of our car, we enjoyed headed home to put our beaut up. I can't wait to share our tree with you! **hint hint, come back on Wednesday.
