A Hill-Kind-Of-Christmas-Tree

Wednesday, November 29, 2017
The day after Thanksgiving we headed straight to the Christmas tree farm to find our winning Christmas tree for the season. After wrapping up, we ventured the short trip with hot cocoa in hand and Christmas tunes playing. Hunting for and cutting down our Christmas tree is one of my very traditions. And this year it was so much more fun with Greer being extra aware of everything going on! She was very vocal about which direction to head and what tree tickled her fancy. Her excitement for all of the festivities is sheer magic.

This particular morning was perfectly chilly and bright, which was great considering the unseasonal warmth we've been having on and off. Plus, I love a chance to wear a toboggan and winter coat. And there isn't anything much cuter than a bundled up baby/toddler.

We had the best time wandering the hills of the tree farm until we came across our winning tree. Husband cut it down lickety-split and we made our way back to the shop to find our keepsake ornament for the year, grab a jar of hot pepper jelly, and have our tree shaken and bundled.

Can you even?! That little face is nothing but joy. Her daddy would run her back and forth on the worn roadway and she would bounce herself up and down while wildly clapping her hands. This was her expression the entire time. This girl is fearless and always loves a wild adventure.

She may look slightly terrified, but don't be fooled. I just couldn't catch her smiling. Her favorite part of the shop....the rocking chairs. She found a cozy spot in one and rocked away. Once we paid for our tree and husband loaded it up, we nestled back in the van for the trip home. Our tree is sweetly tucked into the front corner of our family room, and I'm soaking in the 24/7 twinkle lights and smell of fresh fir filling our home. This really is the most wonderful time of the year!

Tis the most festive time of the year! I love to find little ways to celebrate all December long, especially by bringing people together. And what better way to get into the holiday spirit than hosting a little coffee soirée? Whether it's a couples' get-together or with your best gals, this is an easy way to spread a little cheer and enjoy some quality time during the holiday season. So send out the invites, throw up the twinkle lights, and prep the perfect holiday coffee tray. With a little red, some faux snow, and Starbucks® Holiday Blend, your tray will be sure to delight.

A S S E M B L I N G    T H E    C O F F E E    T R A Y
  1. Put down a thin layer of faux snow. I only covered a corner of the tray to keep some variance in texture.
  2. Add straws, stir sticks, candy canes, and cookie stirrers to different jars. I used two white mason jars + one coffee cup. This little differentiation is a fun way to make your coffee tray stand out.
  3. Use a fun container for your creamer, and set that out in the "snow" too.
  4. Add a faux pine tree (or other similar accent piece) to enhance the holiday feel. If you feel like it, add candy canes to the tree.
  5. Set out your coffee cups.
  6. Lastly, add your bag of Starbucks® Holiday Blend ground coffee to the tray. Its pop of red is not only festive, but it's a fun way to tell your guests what type of coffee you're brewing. They can check out all of the information about the coffee right on the bag!

For me, it's all about the details and turning something ordinary into something a little more spectacular. Just taking it up a notch and displaying items in fun ways is an easy way to spruce up anything. For this coffee tray, I kept the season in mind and went with a red and white theme. I used the Starbucks® Holiday Blend red for inspiration and went from there! From wooden Santa coffee stirrers to a sweet cookie treat that could be used as a stirrer too, my tray came to life.

But it wouldn't be complete without the most aromatic coffee brewing in the background. We love Starbucks® Holiday Blend ground coffee, it's a favorite in our house, and it's just the right brew for this time of year. And really, the smell couldn't be lovelier. Pair it with your favorite creamers and toppings or opt for black if that's more your style!

Now settle in with your family and friends to enjoy the time together! Cheers!

You can find the 10 oz bag of Starbucks® Holiday Blend ground coffee at Walmart in the coffee aisle. Purchase three qualifying Starbucks® packaged coffee, Starbucks® K-Cup® packs, VIA® Instant, Starbucks® Syrups, or Starbucks® Cookie Straw packs products in single transaction at Walmart stores from November 1 - December 26 and receive 75 bonus stars when you upload your receipt at Starbucks-stars.com.

The Art Of Christmas Card-ing

Wednesday, November 22, 2017
T-minus one day to Thanksgiving, and we are excited! We are in the festive spirit in the Hill house and, we are staying ahead of the game so we can truly soak in all of the holiday goodness. One thing I have noticed as an adult celebrating the holidays is how much the to-do's of the season tend to make things feel chaotic, or even worse like a chore. Whether it's Christmas shopping or making sure to get your Christmas cards out in a decent amount of time, it's easy to make these things feel like stressors. So this year my goal is to make sure that whatever activity we have planned in the name of the holidays is done with joy and no stress. Who's with me?

Christmas cards are one of my favorite parts of the month of December. I love opening the mailbox to find a handwritten envelope (or three) mixed in with all of the mail. There's just something so delightful about cracking open a Christmas card and enjoying the sentiment. Our fridge is covered in cards by the end of the month, and it thrills me.

I love sending Christmas cards out as much as I love receiving them. I have so much fun selecting a design and matching it to the pictures. What I don't love is addressing all of the cards. That's easily my least favorite part, but it's a necessary part of spreading a little holiday cheer. And as a proponent of snail mail, I don't let it keep me from sending Christmas cards each year. So, in order to find a little more joy in the prepping aspect, we turned our prepping-card-to-do, into a little party with some of our favorite things. And y'all, it changed everything

Here is how you can too....
  1. Light a fire. It will do wonders for the mood in the room.
  2. Turn on Christmas music. There's nothing like festive music to get you in the spirit.
  3. Burn some balsam candles. You know if the room smells like Christmas, it's really going to set the tone.
  4. Make hot cocoa, and be sure to top with marshmallows.
  5. There need to be cookies. There always need to be cookies.
  6. If you have littles, involve them. Because if you make something feel magical, it truly will be to them.

This year, I went with a beautiful water-color design, and I'm smitten with it. Mpix makes beautiful cards for any occasion, which made them my top choice for our Christmas cards this year. I also had the option of having my return address printed onto the envelopes. And that, my friends, is a time-saver!

If you haven't yet given your Christmas cards a thought, I've got some news that's going to change that! For Black Friday Mpix is offering 50% off cards and free standard shipping on orders of $35 or more. That's amazing! So be sure to add to this to your Friday must-dos! This is a company I love with products that always surpass my expectations. From quality materials to gorgeous prints, you just can't go wrong with Mpix!

Thankful, Grateful & Pregnant

Monday, November 20, 2017
We are beginning this week of thankfulness with bursting hearts of thanksgiving! We've been keeping a little secret you see, and we're so excited to share that these three Hills will soon be four! Come June 2018, our house will grow by one sweet little babe and our hearts will not be able to contain all the love or excitement!

Husband and I are just thrilled to be expecting another baby, and we are over the moon for our Greer girl to become a big sister. Y'all, she gets it just a little bit, and I already know that she is going to be the best in her sister role. She loves her friends and cousins like no other, and she's the sweetest little mama to her baby dolls. Greer never misses a baby, whether on the diaper box or when out and about, always telling me all the things a baby has....like a diaper, a blanket, little feet, and a mouth :) I can't wait to watch her meet her baby sibling. I don't know if my mama heart can handle it; I'm going to be a puddle.

This girl of ours loves to point out where baby's photos are hanging on the side of the fridge. Whenever there's someone visiting, she makes sure to let them know. I'm already thinking this little big sister is going to be possessive of a little tiny someone. And I kind of love it a lot! Greer will be two and half (just about exactly) when baby arrives, so I know that she's really going to understand this whole baby thing by then. And that's really exciting to dream about. I just can't believe that my first baby won't be the baby anymore. I remember her birth day like it was yesterday, and soon enough I'll have another birth day tucked away as a sweet memory.

My belly is already starting to pop (second babies do. not. mess. around.), especially at the end of the day. And that's just been wild. My body already knows what to do, so it's just making itself at home, stretching out and prepping for this babe. So far, this pregnancy has been pretty identical to Greer's. I'm nauseous 24/7 without actually getting sick, smells are my mortal enemy, and carbs + sweets + juice/water are my only food sources. I'm looking forward to the 2nd trimester bliss that (hopefully!) awaits.

As far as gender goes, I'm totally thinking girl. I'm not sure if it's because my pregnancy has been so similar to Greer's or if it's because I've had a girl and that's all I know. But, we'll find out come January, and either way we are going to be so thrilled! This little baby, our Junebug, is so very loved and prayed for. We can't wait to meet that cute little face! Till then we'll be soaking in our time as "the three of us."

Countdown To Turkey Day + Some Favorites

Friday, November 17, 2017

How about a late night post for your Friday? I'm finally settled down for the evening and I have some favorites that I just have to share with you. That, and let's talk Turkey Day. Anyone else in utter disbelief that Thanksgiving is just six days away?? Me, I am. It seems crazy to me that we're halfway through November, and next week we'll be celebrating with all the best foods, a morning parade on tv (my favorite!), and then an official kick-off to Christmas. This really is the best time of year! What are your must-have side dishes on the Thanksgiving table?? I love my mom's homemade cranberry salad and I would never turn down sweet potato casserole.

So if you follow me on IG and watched my stories from this afternoon, then you know I am assembling some garland for my fireplace. Michaels is having a HUGE doorbuster discount (70%) on garland today and tomorrow. I found the perfect, loose garland for a steal. And I think I'm heading back tomorrow to grab some more for some other festive touches around the house.

Now for some favorites...
  • I need new pajamas. Am I the only one who leaves this clothing last to replace? I don't do it intentionally, but somehow I neglect my pajamas. So I've been eyeing two new pairs. I love nightgowns and I'm also a lover of tunic tops with leggings
  • So I've never been a lipstick-wearer, but I really want to give it a try. I think I'm adding this to my stocking stuffer list for Christmas. And I'd love to try this lip scrub too!
  • I just want to wear this pullover all winter long.
  • I love festive, paper straws for every time of the year. So right now, I'm loving these white/red striped straws. And I don't think I'll be running out any time soon.
  • Coffee dates with my best gal and Starbucks Holiday Blend Coffee. This is my favorite coffee for making lattes at home. The sad part...husband dropped the carafe for our latte maker when we moved last year and it's been a solid year since I've had a latte. It makes me terribly sad. Guess I need to put that on my Christmas list.

Comfy & Cozy In Our Christmas Pajamas

Wednesday, November 15, 2017
This post is sponsored by Carter's; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

As wonderful as the holidays are for me, they are even more magical through my toddler's eyes. She has been pure joy to watch while taking in the twinkling lights, holiday music, and festiveness around her. We decided this year, we would put a pint-sized Christmas tree in her room. And y'all, this girl of ours has not stopped telling us how beautiful her tree is. It's absolutely the most darling thing.

She will sit and read book upon book by her tree, graze the ornaments ever so gingerly, or point out the woodland critters nestled int the branches. I think my favorite, though, is when she lays out on her belly, feet in the air, adoring her tree. Of course, it's all the sweeter, when she's tucked into Christmas pajamas, our favorite way to ring in the season.

We are holiday-lovers in the Hill house, and nothing spreads a little holiday cheer like festive clothes for the season. With cold temperatures and cozy, winter days, we often find ourselves relaxing at home in our pajamas. At this time of year, we think it's even better when our pajamas are geared for the holidays. As we begin prepping for Christmas, be certain that we all have our fair share of comfy, Christmas jams. Greer's dresser is stocked with adorable holiday pajamas from Carter's, our go-to shop for affordable and quality pjs all year through, and I can't wait for all the sweet Christmas moments we'll share with her while she's sporting her Christmas jammies.

Not only do we love the comfort and style of Carter's pajamas, but we love their heart too. By partnering with the Pajama Program, an organization that provides children new pajamas from November 1 - December 31, Carter's helps give countless children a cozy night's sleep. You can donate a pair of pajamas in-store or make a monetary donation at checkout (in-store or online). Carter's will match up to 100,000 pairs of pajamas! The best part, your local community benefits directly from your support.

If you couldn't tell, a certain little someone (and her mama) are loving these Christmas pajamas! Check out the assortment Carter's offers. Equally cute and comfy, are Carter's holiday clothes for this season. Whether you're dressing your little for a simple day at home or a holiday soiree, Carter's has the sweetest collection of holiday wear.

Planning Out A Gallery Wall

Monday, November 13, 2017
Have you been envisioning a large gallery wall to fill that blank wall in your home, but just don't know where to start? Today, I hope I can give you some tips to planning out your ideal gallery wall, giving you the boost to make it happen. And I promise, it's going to completely transform your space. No wall ever looked so good as one decorated with photos!

You all have been so kind about my gallery wall that I originally shared back in February. I have sense made some changes to the layout of furniture in our family room, and the gallery wall has a slightly different look these days. Since I get lots of questions from you about how I planned it out and made it come to life, I wanted to take some time to share my process + to show you the new space!

The first step to putting your gallery wall together is to begin by assessing your space. How big is the wall you have in mind? The size of the wall will ultimately determine the size of the frames. You want them to complement one another for a flawless look. In my home, my wall is large, and I knew I wanted an almost floor-to-ceiling look. I didn't want the entire wall covered in photos, but I wanted at least half of it dedicated to my gallery wall. A little calculating later, and I determined that three rows and four columns using 16x20 frames would make for the perfect layout.

Next, I wanted to make sure the photos themselves were the main feature, not the frames. So I scoured the internet for frames that had a thin, metal edge, but also offered a matte option. When hanging a lot of photos close together in rows and columns, it's important to create some visual space, and that's exactly what a matted photo frame gives you. Once I found my matted frames in the size I needed, I started the process of picking my photos.

When selecting photos for a large gallery wall, I highly recommend using photos that have been professionally taken so that you have high-resolution in the final product. You don't want large and blurry photos. The photos I selected were printed as 11x14 prints. We combined some older photos with our most recent family photos. And because we have used the same photographer over the last two years, all of our photos have a very similar aesthetic. That makes choosing photos so very easy. If you're not sure that the color quality of your photo selections is similar enough, I suggest opting for black and white prints. That's always a guaranteed classic look, and you can't go wrong with it!

Printing the photos is next up on the to-dos. I've always used Mpix to print my photos; the quality is exceptional and I am always extremely pleased with how they look. From the color to the photo paper, I've always ended up with bright, crisp photos ready for hanging.

A C H E I V I N G    T H I S    L O O K    I N    Y O U R    H O M E
  • Frames
    • Frame size = 16.299"L x 20.354"W x .787"D
    • Matted (in white) for an 11x14 photo
    • Thin silver, metal frame
  • Photos
    • 11x14
    • Professionally taken and professionally printed by Mpix
  • Hanging
    • The photos are spaced 1.5" apart on all sides
    • I started hanging from the ceiling down, but spaced it all out before putting nails in the wall to make sure I had enough room.
I hope this provided you some insight for beginning the planning process for your very own gallery wall!
